Fen Creation Workshop
A half-day workshop looking at fen creation on a sand and gravel quarry in North Yorkshire.
In 2018, the Lower Ure Conservation Trust began creating fen habitat on 1.25 hectares of lake shore formed by gravel extraction. After six years, we’d like to share our findings with other conservation practitioners interested in wetland creation.
We’ll discuss:
· Our evidence base and how we’ve identified locally-appropriate plant communities for wetland creation
· Establishing a wetland plant nursery
· Sourcing and collecting seed and cuttings for plant propagation
· Planting techniques
· Success, failures and challenges
· Biodiversity of the new wetland
