An Introduction to Water Bugs and Water Beetles

Get to know two of the major groups of aquatic insects, their ecology, life-cycle and role in understanding wetlands.

This free workshop with LUCT Ecologist Martin Hammond will start with an indoor talk in the visitor centre from 10am -12pm looking at specimens with hand lenses. Lunch will be 12pm - 1pm, followed by a visit to the dipping ponds from 1pm - 2.30pm.

What you'll need:

Please wear sturdy footwear and bring warm/waterproof clothing as we'll have a short walk to the dipping ponds in the afternoon.

Packed lunch and a drink/flask.

Please bring a 10x hand lens if you have one.

Where to meet:

Quarry Visitor Centre, Nosterfield. (Nosterfield Quarry, Flask Lane, DL8 2QZ)

It's a right turn off the B6267, just before you enter the village of Nosterfield as you head in the direction of Masham. It has a stone 'Nosterfield Quarry' sign marking the turning, then it's an immediate left turn into the car park. The postcode doesn't take you to the car park itself, so best to use What3Words: deliver.chuck.reject for the exact location on a map.
